Early voting for state elections begins Oct. 19
Residents will soon have their first opportunity to vote in this year’s Nov. 5 state and presidential election. Beginning on Oct. 19, early voting will open in East Longmeadow, Hampden, Longmeadow and Wilbraham.

East Longmeadow High School to install vapor detection system for e-cigarettes
EAST LONGMEADOW — In the next few months, East Longmeadow will be installing a vapor detection system in four bathrooms at the current high school property in order to reduce and deter student usage of electronic cigarettes.

EAST LONGMEADOW — The East Longmeadow Planning Board discussed the recent state initiative to allow accessory dwelling units by right under the approved Affordable Homes Act and the town’s next steps to approach the changes from the legislation at its Sept. 17 meeting.
Recycling initiative donates boxes of school supplies to Springfield teachers
It started with a conversation between commission members. Elizabeth Bone and Dawna Jenne, both members of the Longmeadow Recycling Commission, were speaking one day when Jenne told Bone about her work with Springfield Public Schools’ Tools 4 Teaching, a nonprofit that organizes the donation of gently used school supplies to Springfield teachers.
Town Council hears second review of hazard mitigation plan
EAST LONGMEADOW — Pioneer Valley Planning Commission Senior Land Use and Environment Planner Mimi Kaplan presented the town’s draft 2024 hazard mitigation plan at the Town Council’s Sept. 10 meeting, fulfilling the required second public hearing of the draft plan.
Strother selected to fill School Committee vacancy
EAST LONGMEADOW — At their joint meeting on Sept. 10, the Town Council and School Committee selected William Strother to fill a recently vacated position on the School Committee.
