HOLYOKE — On Jan. 22, Hyundai Hope on Wheels donated $10,000 to Each Moment We’re Alive of West Springfield at the Gary Rome Hyundai dealership.

Each Moment We’re Alive Founder Cindy Sheridan Murphy was there to accept the check on behalf of the organization.

Murphy’s journey as a survivor exemplifies the spirit of resilience and support. After battling cancer twice, she founded Each Moment We’re Alive in 2015, highlighting the essential need for emotional and spiritual support for survivors.

Murphy’s realization that reaching out is crucial for healing has led her to create a network of support groups and workshops. Her focus extends beyond her own experience to include families facing all types of cancer.

The funds will be used to help Each Moment We’re Alive to help them with their support services and help families and patients that are going through cancer, cancer treatment and the recovering process.

Murphy stated how these funds will be able to help more people they serve as the number of people looking for help is always growing.

She said, “This means we can open up our services to our people and unfortunately, the need is there, so we’re getting calls every day from people on navigation services. Where do I get a wig? Where do I go for treatment? Women, men, we help them navigate that we have support groups and we have survivorship programs so that when they’re done with treatments, we now help them get back to their daily lives.”

When people’s treatments are done, Murphy said, “People don’t know where to turn,” and people reach out to her organization looking for help.

Rome’s commitment to the fight against childhood cancer is highlighted through his actions as he serves as the Eastern Region board member of Hyundai Hope on Wheels.

With a passion for making a difference, Rome said, “At Gary Rome Hyundai, we believe in leading by example and pride ourselves on doing the next right thing. As a Hyundai Hope on Wheels board member, I am dedicated to supporting local organizations battling childhood cancer.” His words embody a deep sense of compassion and responsibility, emphasizing the importance of striking out cancer and offering hope to those who need it most.

Hyundai Hope on Wheels is a nonprofit organization backed by Hyundai Motor America and its network of over 820 U.S. dealers since 1998. Its mission is centered around supporting families, researchers and children affected by childhood cancer.

Rome explained that each Hyundai that is sold by any one of the Hyundai dealers in the country, $22 is donated to Hyundai Hope on Wheels. Over the past 26 years, it has donated $250 million. Last year the organization donated $26 million in its 26th year and this year it will donate $27 million for its 27th year to help find a cure and help those that need it.

Its efforts have resulted in over $250 million in grants. The organization not only raises awareness but also invites everyone to join the vital movement to end childhood cancer.

“It should be a wonderful, fantastic party and all for a great cause,” Murphy stated.
