ENFIELD — On Saturday, Sept. 28, Allied Community Programs will be hosting their annual Fall Festival and 5K Walk on the Enfield Town Green from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Their annual 5K walk has been taking place for 16 years and this is the second year they are doing the Fall Festival portion of it.
There will be crafters, vendors, yard games, face painting, food trucks, a DJ and much more. Plus, they are introducing two new bands that are joining this year, Identity Crysys featuring Madison Humel on vocals and the Cantalini 3 Band.
“We are trying to get the community more involved and recognize what Allied has done in the community,” said Sports and Recreation Manager Michael Vignone. “We wanted to give Enfield and the surrounding towns a sense of togetherness. Our goal amount for last year was $12,000, so we’re trying to exceed that to at least $15,000 this year to support our sports & recreation programs.”
Allied Community Programs is a nonprofit organization that provides individuals with disabilities or other challenges the opportunity to live and enjoy a productive, independent and fulfilling life.
Vignone has been the Sports and Recreation manager for the last nine years. Allied Community Programs has been active in the community for 60 years, so when he was growing up in Enfield, Vignone became aware of the organization and the valuable work they provide.
“I wanted to get involved with the organization because I wanted the community to realize that everyone has abilities,” Vignone said. “Working for Allied has been an amazing experience watching people reach their full potential. Since the Sports and Recreation programs do not receive funding from the state or government, it’s important to raise as much money to keep the valuable programs running.”
