Local food pantry provides over 55 years of service to reduce food insecurity

ENFIELD — The Enfield Food Shelf has been established in town since 1968. It is a nonprofit organization that provides a variety of different food and basic needs for Enfield families who find themselves with a need. They provide weekly grocery-style food assistance and basic needs as donations permit, such as toiletries, cleaning products, clothing and shoes.

New deer technician at Huntington weigh station loves her job

HUNTINGTON — Some hunters checking their deer at the weigh station in the parking lot of 22 E. Main St. outside of B&D’s the first week of shotgun season were surprised to meet MassWildlife technician Kalina Flood of Worthington at the scale in place of stewardship biologist Jacob Morris-Siegel, who manned the station for the past 16 years.

Westfield councilor opposes lithium battery storage

WESTFIELD — During public participation at the City Council meeting Dec. 9, Councilor Dan Allie spoke about the Department of Public Utilities hearing at Westfield State University on Dec. 5 to consider exempting Jupiter Power, LLC. from the city’s zoning regulations for a lithium battery energy storage system on Medeiros Way. He also announced his intention to make a motion to have the council consider a resolution opposing the project.

What I’m watching: ‘Wicked’ disappointing holiday films

Continuing to build a life rich in what matters most

As January 2024 approached, I wrote a column candidly sharing that I did not know what made me happy anymore. At the time, I was dealing with a big loss. My grandfather John, who was more of a best friend than a typical grandpa — had passed away a few months earlier. I was starting a new year — a year without him — and I felt as though everything I knew and was comfortable with had changed.

Additional train service is a long time in coming

So, a couple of weeks ago as I stood on the train platform at Union Station listening to elected and transportation officials talk about the status of additional passenger train service between here and Boston, I realized that no one acknowledged former state Sen. Eric Lesser.

Wrong location for middle school

Article 6 is a wakeup call to Longmeadow residents signed by over 300 citizens who agree that the current Williams Middle School site is the wrong location. At the Nov. 12 Town Meeting, voters will get to decide whether they support a new consolidated middle school to be built on the current (WMS) property site despite some major disadvantages which threaten long term consequences for the town.

Find a better solution for middle school

I would like to address last weeks Letter to the Editor, asking Longmeadow residents to vote yes on Article 6. Contrary to the opinion of the MSBC, we are not trying to derail the process, we are trying to find a better solution and location for the proposed new combined middle school. Let me address each of their points.
